Hello, World.

World has not responded. I’ve checked. The void is, at time of writing, unnervingly silent. Perhaps World is busy. Perhaps World has better blogs to read. Perhaps World is a social construct, and I’m shouting into a server rack somewhere in Virginia.

This is my blog. I’m told every blog needs a first post, the way every program needs a main(). Something has to run first. Something has to break the silence. This is that something.

I considered writing an introduction. Who I am, what I do, what this blog will “explore.” But that assumes I know the answers, and I have been advised by counsel not to commit perjury this early in the process.

Here is what I know for certain:

  • This is a website
  • You are reading it
  • At least one of us is confused about why

The first post is always a lie. It promises things. “Welcome to my blog about woodworking.” Three posts later: silence. The blog becomes a fossil. Future archaeologists will unearth it and wonder what happened. (The answer is always the same: life, entropy, a new Netflix season.)

I’m not going to promise anything. This post is a proof of life and nothing more. The machinery works. Words go in, HTML comes out. Beyond that, I make no guarantees.

The floor is lava. More to come. Probably.
